Heat-treated pallet with HT marking

Is heat treatment effective for pallets? Is it important to use it in pallet manufacturing? What stages do these products go through before Moutardi puts them on sale? Find out the details in this article and make the decision that works best for you when it comes to pallets. We offer you a range of options.

What stages do pallets go through during heat treatment?

What does heat treatment (HT) mean for pallets and why does it matter? It is important to know what this heat treatment involves in order to understand why it matters.

    1. Pre-drying: before the wood undergoes heat treatment, it goes through a pre-drying stage that removes excess moisture. This stage is essential and forms the basis for the following stages, as it ensures uniform heat absorption.
    2. Exposure to temperatures above 56 degrees Celsius: the wood is exposed to these higher temperatures for half an hour or more.
    3. Controlled cooling: the wood is cooled in a controlled way to prevent cracking or warping.
    4. Reconditioning: the moisture content of the wood is brought back to a certain level to make further processing easier.

    Why is heat treatment important?

Each stage plays its part in producing high-quality heat-treated pallets. This process gives pallets several characteristics, such as:

    • Pallets are more stable: because heat-treated wood contains less moisture, it becomes more stable and does not change shape, swell or shrink.
    • Pallets are more durable: treated wood becomes more resistant to mould, fungi and pests. Eliminating pests is the main reason why we at Moutardi provide heat treatment. This is required by the industries in which pallets are used, because pests in pallets could get into the goods and breach the applicable rules. It is also a requirement of the countries or regions to which pallets are shipped, to prevent forests and other areas from being infested with pests brought in on pallets from the country of origin.
    • Better thermal resistance: heat-treated wood is more resistant than untreated wood. This way you can be sure that the pallets will also offer better thermal resistance.

What kind of business do you run, and do you need heat-treated pallets?

Companies in the food, pharmaceutical and beauty sectors are loyal customers who choose these types of heat-treated pallets or Euro pallets, because they cannot afford to risk the quality of their goods. Companies that export goods on pallets also need heat-treated products. We comply with the international phytosanitary regulations, IPPC – ISPM 15, and our company is authorised for this under the code RO-CS-26 HT.

The sign that the pallets we produce are heat treated is the stamp applied on at least two sides. Need products like these? Order any size you need from us.
